{"id":6966,"date":"2021-01-19T16:55:37","date_gmt":"2021-01-19T16:55:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.barfix.fi\/2021\/01\/19\/the-gallows-bird\/"},"modified":"2024-10-04T12:54:49","modified_gmt":"2024-10-04T12:54:49","slug":"the-gallows-bird","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.barfix.fi\/en\/2021\/the-gallows-bird\/customer-experiences\/6966\/","title":{"rendered":"The Gallows Bird"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr>\n<h1>Brewery and restaurant under one roof<\/h1>\n<p>  Espoo&#8217;s first restaurant-bar opened a year ago in Tapiola.<br \/>\nThe sophisticated tap technology, roof-mounted dispensing tanks and the technology needed to store real ale beers were implemented in collaboration with Barfix Oy.<br \/>\nEstablished in Niittykumpu in the 1990s, The Gallows Bird was one of the first beer restaurants in Finland to offer more than just domestic pale lager on tap.<br \/>\nSo it was only natural that when the legendary beer restaurant moved from Niittykumpu to Tapiola, it moved its own brewery, expanded its selection with real ale beers and ciders from its own brewery and set a minimum number of taps at 24.<br \/>\nThe first thing that catches your eye when you enter The Gallows Bird is the brewery behind the glass walls and the huge beer fermentation tanks.<br \/>\nNext, attention shifts to the four 500 litre dispensing tanks above the bar. <strong>Restaurant manager Mael Bavard<\/strong> explains that once the beer is poured, some of the brewery&#8217;s own products are pushed from the fermentation tanks directly into the tanks.<br \/>\n&#8211; We don&#8217;t have a separate cold room, so the beer is stored in the dispensing tanks.<br \/>\nThe cold lining around the tanks keeps the beer consistently cold and fresh.<br \/>\nCeiling mounted dispensing tanks are a great way to store beer in a small space.<br \/>\nThey are also a stylish addition to your interior.<br \/>\n&#8211; If the tank runs out at a busy time or on a weekend, for example, the dispensing tanks can be quickly replaced by a normal keg,&#8221; says Bavard.            <figure id=\"attachment_2826\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2826\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2826 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.barfix.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/gallows-01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2826\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">At The Gallows Bird, home brewed beers are the best sellers.<br \/>\nWhen a beer has a story, it attracts attention and encourages you to try it.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<h2>Fresh beers gaining popularity<\/h2>\n<p>  Another speciality of the restaurant is the real ale cabinet.<br \/>\nReal ale is a surface-dry beer that continues to mature in the restaurant&#8217;s tank.<br \/>\nWhile the optimum temperature for normal beers is between 4-8 degrees Celsius, the lower-acid fresh beer is served and stored at less than 10 degrees Celsius.<br \/>\nAt The Gallows Bird, the real ale tanks are housed in a separate refrigerator, which ensures that the beer remains at a constant temperature throughout.<br \/>\nFrom there, the beer is pumped to the brewhouse by hand pump without propellant.<br \/>\nThe hose between the Barfix-built storage cabinet and the beer taps is also cooled.<br \/>\nThis ensures that the beer is always served to the customer at the right temperature.<br \/>\nReal ale is a fresh product and should not take long to get from England to Finland.<br \/>\nFears of a hard Brexit led The Gallows Bird&#8217;s entrepreneurs to expand the range of beers brewed at the brewery to include fresh beers.<br \/>\nNow one of the real ale taps on the counter always comes with its own beer.<br \/>\nBavard says this has boosted real ale sales considerably.            <figure id=\"attachment_2829\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2829\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2829 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.barfix.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/gallows-04.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2829\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Barfix designed, drew and implemented the wishes of The Gallows Bird&#8217;s entrepreneurial couple Thomas Aschan and Lea Rantala.<br \/>\nFitting 24 beer taps and three real ale pumps ergonomically and sensibly required careful planning and execution.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2828\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2828\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2828 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.barfix.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/gallows-05.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"676\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2828\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Barfix beer counters are always designed with ergonomics in mind.<br \/>\nThe Gallows Birds counter, for example, is slightly lower than normal and the stylish taps are positioned close to the waiter.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2833\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2833\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2833 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.barfix.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/gallows-02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2833\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The beer is transferred from the brewery&#8217;s tanks to the customer&#8217;s glass via a system built by Barfix.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Brewery and restaurant under one roof Espoo&#8217;s first restaurant-bar opened a year ago in Tapiola.
