When you get the willies, go to Pub Ludvig

Located on the corner of Ludviginkatu and Korkeavuorenkatu in Helsinki, Pub Ludvig is an atmospheric old-fashioned bar serving a wide range of beers with a room dedicated to whisky. When you close your eyes and sniff the Guinness, you can imagine for a moment that you are in London. When the owners renovated the new bar just over a year ago, they wanted to pay homage to the late 19th century building. The long counter is granite and the wooden benches running along the wall are reminiscent of the old train station waiting room benches. The dark walls and modern ceiling lights make the space feel cosy.

As one of the pub’s specialities is its wide range of beers, the pub wanted to honour the beers with a tap solution that matched the interior design. Barfix custom-built two octagonal taps made of polished stainless steel. One of the reasons the owners chose the Barfix tap system is that it can be combined with the DraughtMaster system. The number of beers available to customers on tap increased dramatically as the range did not have to be restricted to a particular system. “It’s easy to change all the beer kegs and thanks to the refrigeration system, the beer is always cool when you pour it into the customer’s glass,” says Janna Muttonen, restaurant manager. The same familiar standard beers are always on offer in eight taps. Others are changed depending on the season and the situation. One tap always has cider and the other tentacle. The counter and taps are also ergonomically designed. The counter is deep and at the right height. Muttonen says that in many other workplaces you know you’ve poured a beer after a shift, but with the system Barfix designed for Ludvig, you don’t feel any strain on your hands after a shift because the lifting motion is more ergonomic.
